Why we built EditEngine

Large catalog updates often involve three kinds of work:

  1. Spreadsheet round-trips. Export data, edit it, and import the changes.
  2. Per-product editing. Open and update individual products or variants.
  3. Rule-based edits. Filter products, choose an operation, and apply it across the selected records.

EditEngine combines spreadsheet workflows with filtered in-app edits. Its Edit Preview lets you inspect proposed changes before running a supported bulk operation.

What we believe about bulk editing

A few opinions baked into the product:

  • Check rollback before editing. Supported in-app edits can be rolled back from History. Deletes are permanent; spreadsheet workflows need an untouched export and a task-specific rollback plan.
  • Variants matter. Prices, SKUs, inventory, and other variant fields need their own rules and previews.
  • Destructive actions deserve friction. Delete Product, Delete Variants, and Delete Metafield all have explicit guardrails. The rest of the app is fast; those are deliberately not.
  • The preview should never lie. What you see in Edit Preview is what runs.
